Radical
Brownies

Zapatista Women of Today
Radical Brownies are a group of young girls of color that are active in their community in terms of social justice. They formed in Oakland, CA. They receive badges for learning about LGBTQ and participating in protest such as Black Lives Matter. Their mission statement is : “The Radical Brownies empower young girls of color so that they step into their collective power, brilliance and leadership in order to make the world a more radical place.” I believe this is a great opportunity for these young girls to be able to form a change in their communities. I believe children are our future but with opportunities such as the Radical Brownies, the children will be able to create the change that we look for.

In 1994 the Ejército Zapatista de Liberación Nacional (Zapatista Army of National LIberation) amennded their cosnstitution by adding the Women’s Revolutinary Law. This law basically says that the Zapatistas will fight for women’s right and fair treatment. This article summarizes the law into 10 points and then states how this law is lived today. The Zapatistas refer to themselves as compañero or compañera. This is so because those words are used to refer to someone as an equal. In the Zapatista territories the men and women coexist sharing responsibilities in the household and in the workforce. They wish to abolish the capitalistic belief that women are not valuable. The Zapatistas have this belief because they wish to end the traditional patriarchy society within Mexico. The Zapatista are truly an interesting movement occurring Mexico.
